Southern Area Boatwork Camp
On Sunday 28 June 2009, more than one hundred Sea and Marine Cadets from all over the south of England converged on HMS Bristol for the annual Southern Area Boatwork Camp. Their ages ranged from 12 years to 17 years.
The object of the camp was to either learn the basics of boatwork or to improve the level of expertise in the various Boatwork applications, ranging from pulling (rowing), through power boating to sailing.
The weather was extremely hot for most of the week, but the students worked hard to gain the required skills.
In all, 104 cadets earned 189 qualifications. In addition, there were 11 Instructor qualifications gained, 7 by senior cadets and 4 by adult members of the Corps.
The awards were presented by Commander A. Giles Royal Navy, the Southern Area Officer, on the flight deck of HMS Bristol.
