Masonic Donation to Worthing Unit

A “Sussex for Sussex” initiative by the Masonic Lodges of the county has resulted in an enormous £90,000 distribution of donations to numerous charitable causes throughout Sussex, and these were presented at a ceremony held at the Charmandean Centre, Worthing on Monday evening, 25 January 2010.
Among the beneficiaries of this magnificent effort were the Cadets from T.S. Vanguard, the Worthing Unit of the Sea Cadet Corps.
Due to advances in technology, the sailing dinghies owned by the unit were becoming outdated, and a bid was made, through Mr. Ross Everett, Charity Steward of the Sompting Lodge, for funds to purchase a “Laser Pico”. This is the new standard of dinghy for the Sea Cadet Corps.
Fortunately for the Sea Cadets, the application was approved, and the boat, complete with a full suit of sails, a launching trolley and road trailer, was presented to the Cadets by the Provincial Grand Master, Mr Ken Thomas.
Representing the Sea Cadet Unit were Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Rob Picknell, Able Cadet H. Smallpiece, Marine Cadet J. O’Neill, Junior Cadet 1st Class K. Picknell and the Units Chairman Mr. David Shipley.
Mr Craig Mackay, from Sompting Lodge was also in attendance, and he commented that the Cadets were a credit to the Sea Cadet Corps, and to the youth of the county.
