Southern Area Sea Cadets

Welcome to the Southern Area of the Sea Cadet Corps. Our Area extends from Banbury in the North through to Poole in the West and across the South East of England as far as Ramsgate. The Area includes the Isle of Wight, Channel Islands and Falkland Islands. In total we have 70 Units, with 1 more in the process of starting up, which are grouped together to form the 8 Districts that make up the Southern Area.

The Area is managed by a small team based in HMS NELSON in Portsmouth. The team comprises Area and Deputy Area Officers, Business and Management Director (South), ALO (Weapons & Stores), ALO (Health & Safety Adviser & Boats), Area Office Manager, Area Secretary (Administration) and Area Secretary (Personnel).

In turn these 8 individuals work with the range of volunteers who form the backbone of the Sea Cadet organisation in Southern Area. No matter whether the individual volunteer is working at Area, District or Unit level, the aim of each of them is to provide the right environment for young people to enjoy what Sea Cadets proudly call ‘Serious Fun’.

Southern Area provides a mix of large and small Units which in turn can offer Junior sections, Marine Cadet detachments and of course in all Units, except Chatham Marines, our famous Blue Jackets. The activities on offer vary from Unit to Unit and cover the mix of events outlined on the main Sea Cadet pages, so no matter where you are you are sure to find something of interest at your local Unit. Southern Area is fortunate to have its own Boating Station located at Whale Island in Portsmouth and an outdoor activity centre at Middlehill near Crawley.
