Surrey District Camp

Surrey District Camp
At very short notice, Farnham Unit found itself as the base for the Surrey District Camp which took place over the week of 13th to 18th April.

The original location for the week long multi-activity camp was to be HMS Bristol, which is moored in Portsmouth, but there were some problems and the camp had to be moved, lock, stock and barrel back to Surrey.

The Cadets and Staff were fed and accommodated at the Lower Weybourne Lane HQ and those taking part in the First Aid and Cook/Steward courses used the unit's facilities. The Physical Training Course was run at Guildford Unit; the Shooting Course at Christ's Hospital School and the Chartwork and Navigation Course was run at Camberley Unit.

A full program of activities took place, including trips to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and an evening of Bowling in Guildford.

The Cook/Steward Class hosted a Cocktail Party on the Thursday of the Camp attended by the DAO Major Andy Henderson and District Officer Lt.Cdr Ray Mitchell. The whole week was rounded off with a disco and barbeque.

Lt (SCC) Kevin Milligan (RNR) who was Commanding Officer of the District Camp said he was impressed with the way that all the Staff and Cadets had worked extremely hard to make the week work in its unexpected locations.
