T.S. Ark Royal Channel Swim

On Saturday 26th January 2008 Cadets, Juniors, Staff, Management Committee Members, Parents, Supporters and even ex-cadets from Reigate Unit set out to take up the challenge of swimming the English Channel.

However, due to Health and Safety Regulations and a national shortage of goose grease, it was decided to carry out the challenge at Doynings pool on Redhill.

To complete the equivalent distance the participants needed to complete 1,320 lengths, this was reached with ease and the swimmers went on to complete 3042 lengths, 2.3 times the distance required! So instead of just going from Dover to Calais, the swimmers covered the distance from Dover to Calais and BACK AGAIN and even had lengths spare to swim a few times around Dover harbour.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead Mrs Dorothy Ross-Tomlin and her husband who presented all of the swimmers with a signed certificate to mark the event. She later joined the participants and supporters at the unit for a "Fish Supper".

A big "BZ" goes out to all those who swam and supported, as well as those who sponsored the participants

Also a big thank you goes to Mr Brian Robertson (Treasurer of the Unit) and his team for organising the event and ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
