Cadet 150 and the Southern Area.
A joint statement from our Area Officer, Commander Andy Giles Royal Navy and our Senior Staff Officer, Commander(SCC) Derek Login MBE GCGI Royal Naval Reserve.
2010 will be a very special year for Britain’s Cadet Forces as we are given the opportunity to celebrate 150 years of the Cadet Movement.
Cadet 150 has been granted Royal patronage by Her Majesty the Queen and a number of very high profile national Tri Service Cadet Events will be taking place around the country, such as a Royal Parade and Tea Party in Buckingham Palace.
In addition to a national Cadet 150 programme planning is also in place to run regional and local events. Many of these will be Tri-Service and will give the chance for new experiences that will be remembered by everyone involved for a lifetime.
Within the Southern Area of the Sea Cadets our flagship event will be at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth with the splendid backcloth of the Spinnaker Tower the Sea Cadet Festival on the 1st and 2nd of May. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our cadets to demonstrate to the public the very wide range of skills they are trained to excel in. Be it Band or Paddlesports, Seamanship or Ceremonial Guard, Cook/Stewarding or showing off TS Royalist we plan to show the general public just what the Sea Cadets are all about and will, hopefully, attract new recruits, friends and supporters along the way.
The hope is that as many Units as possible right across the Southern Area try and link up with members of the other Cadet Forces enjoy joint activities, fun and friendship that will be different, newsworthy and memorable.
The Southern Area motto for Cadet 150 is:-
“Get outside, Get involved, Get adventurous, Get new friends”.
Go for it!
